Bringing Water to Your Neighborhood

District-Financed Water Line Extension Program

Would your existing neighborhood be interested in becoming part of the public water system? NID has a new pilot program, the District Financed Water Line Extension Program, that may be able to help you with planning and financing a program to bring water to your neighborhood.

In most cases, property owner groups are required to make a good faith deposit of 10 percent of anticipated water project costs. NID, through its reserve accounts and/or commercial borrowing, may be able to raise the balance. Property owners who benefit from the new water system would then repay the debt over a 20-year period.

If this approach might assist you and your neighbors, please call NID Business Services Technician Shannon Wood at (530) 273-6185, ext. 240, to discuss the concept further or submit your address and parcel number for review using our Water Request Form.

Temporary Service Locations

To ensure the orderly development of the public water system, builders and developers are required to construct water main line extensions to serve their projects. In some cases, homeowners can be served through adjacent facilities, without the expense of a main line extension.

This pilot program allows homeowners to prepay their portion of a future main line extension and connect to the water system through a temporary service connection. The property owner agrees that the service connection will be moved to a permanent location when the future main line extension is completed.

For information on this program, please call NID Business Services Technician Shannon Wood at (530) 273-6185, ext. 240 or submit your address and parcel number for review using our Water Request Form.
