Water for Life

Originating in the headwaters of the Yuba River, Bear River and Deer Creek, NID’s water begins as snowmelt found in 70,000 acres of high elevation watershed.

Water for Agriculture

NID moves water through 450 miles of canal to become irrigation water for 30,000 acres of farmland annually.

Water for Recreation

At Rollins and Scotts Flat reservoirs, NID provides trails, campgrounds and beaches for the community’s enjoyment. Higher up in the mountains, NID maintains and operates campgrounds in the Jackson Meadows and Bowman Lake areas.

Water for Green Power

NID operates seven hydroelectric plants and 12 miles of overhead power lines that deliver 83 Megawatts of clean, carbon free energy to the power-grid. Every year the revenue from hydroelectric sales offsets water rates for the District’s customers.

Conservation

NID encourages water conservation as a means to preserving our precious water resources.
