Water use is typically 30-60% higher during the summer months, and lawns are the worst offenders. On average, a lawn needs to receive a minimum of 1” of water per week during dry conditions. To provide your lawn with one inch of water it takes about a half of gallon per square foot. That means a 100’ x 100’ lawn can use up to 6,200 gallons each week, or 24,800 gallons per month! Watering a lawn this size can increase your water bill by as much as $103 per month!
In order to preserve water and protect District water rights, conservation and efficient water use must be practiced. The following is a list of water usage that the District may consider a waste and therefore unreasonable use. The following mandatory Outdoor Water Use Restrictions apply at all times:
- No watering outside in the heat of the day (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
- No watering during and 48 hours after rain.
- No outdoor watering that causes excess runoff.
- No washing down driveways and sidewalks, unless for health and safety.
- No washing a motor vehicle with a hose, unless the hose is fitted with a shutoff nozzle.
- No use of potable water in a fountain or decorative feature, unless the water is recirculated.
