(Grass Valley, Calif., Sept. 24, 2026) Nevada Irrigation District is partnering with the Nevada Union Joint High School District to expand agricultural education and promote responsible water stewardship at the new Nevada Union High School Farm in south Nevada County.

The 86-acre ranch, established through the school’s career technical education program, provides hands-on training in animal science, ag business, ag mechanics and ornamental horticulture. Because water is essential to the success of the site, NID staff met with school leaders several times to explore how the District could support both classroom learning and on‑farm operations.

This week, the NID Board of Directors approved a Memorandum of Understanding that sets a framework for collaboration. The agreement outlines shared goals to improve agricultural water-use efficiency, support best management practices and expand public outreach on water conservation and sustainable agriculture.

Under the MOU, NID and the school district will work together on educational programs, demonstrations, workshops, classroom activities and community events centered on water and agriculture. Students may participate in hands-on lessons with NID staff, and the ranch may be used as a demonstration site for water-efficient practices.

The partnership emphasizes science-based decision-making, data sharing and community engagement. Each organization will designate a coordinator to guide collaborative activities.

For NID, the agreement reflects a commitment to supporting local agriculture and investing in the next generation of water and land stewards. More details will be shared as joint projects begin under the new partnership.
