Checklist for Chasing Down Leaks – Don’t Forget to Go Outside (Fix a Leak Week Friday)
At the Spigot: Ensure tight connections with the hose and see if the hose washer needs replacing. If your hose leaks while running, replace the nylon or rubber hose washer.
In-ground Irrigation System: Check for broken sprinklers or nozzles spraying in the wrong direction. Each spring before use, make sure irrigation system wasn’t damaged by frost or freezing.
Pool Leaks: Check for leaks near equipment pad, filter pump, heater, and the pipe valves. Also, look for wet soil and sunken or eroding areas.
Tip: Don't forget garden hoses! Check your garden hose for leaks at its connection to the spigot. If it leaks while you run your hose, replace the nylon or rubber hose washer and ensure a tight connection to the spigot using pipe tape and a wrench.
