Improving raw water delivery to Placer County customers and moving forward with a fish passage project were actions taken by the Nevada Irrigation District (NID) Board of Directors during their May 13 meeting, conducted via videoconference. Present were President Ricki Heck, Vice President Chris Bierwagen, and Directors Scott Miller, Nick Wilcox and Laura Peters.

After a public hearing Directors voted to approve the Doty North Canal Siphon #1 Replacement Project. This is part of the Doty North Canal that supplies raw water to customers in Placer County. The existing structure, a 24-inch steel pipe, was originally constructed in the 1940s, and has reached the end of its useful life. The District will replace the existing siphon with a new 350-feet long, 36-inch diameter welded steel inverted siphon pipe. The new structure will span across Doty and Sailor’s Ravines.

The Board also took action to award a consulting contract for California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) services for the Hemphill Diversion Structure Project. The diversion structure is a fish barrier to anadromous fish migration within Auburn Ravine. The project seeks to improve fish passage at the location. 

The next regular meeting of the NID Board of Directors will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 via videoconference. NID Board meetings are open to the public.
