Board meeting wrap: Directors participate in a workshop “understanding the Brown Act”
February 13, 2020
Nevada Irrigation District (NID) Directors participated in a workshop “Understanding the Brown Act,” during their Feb. 12 meeting. Present were President Ricki Heck, Vice President Chris Bierwagen, Scott Miller, Laura Peters and Nick Wilcox.
The Ralph Brown Act was passed in 1953 by the California State Legislature to guarantee the public’s right to attend and participate in meetings of local legislative bodies. The Act covers meetings of the NID Board of Directors, for instance.
The General Manager reported District water storage is 204,288 acre-feet, which is 76 percent of maximum capacity and 102 percent of a seven-year average. Precipitation as measured at Bowman Lake is 73 percent of average at 28.9 inches. NID customers reduced treated water use by 11 percent during January (compared to 2013, which started the worst drought in modern times).
The next regular meeting of the NID Board of Directors will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020 at the NID Business Center located at 1036 West Main Street, Grass Valley. NID Board meetings are open to the public.
