The Nevada Irrigation District (NID) received a Transparency Certificate of Excellence by the Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF) in recognition of its outstanding efforts to promote transparency and good governance, during a June 24 meeting that also honored Remleh Scherzinger upon his resignation as General Manager. Present during the meeting were President Ricki Heck, Vice President Chris Bierwagen, Scott Miller, Laura Peters and Nick Wilcox.

The District received the Transparency Certificate of Excellence by the Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF) in recognition of its outstanding efforts to engage the public and create greater awareness of the district’s activities through transparency and good governance.

To receive the award, a special district must demonstrate the completion of essential governance transparency requirements. The three main subject areas include: basic transparency requirements, such as properly conducting open and public meetings, and filing financial transactions and compensation reports to the State Controller in a timely manner; as well as website and outreach requirements.

SDLF, an independent, non-profit organization formed to promote good governance and best practices among California’s special districts, created the program in 2013 to provide special districts with an opportunity to showcase their efforts in transparency.

President Heck expressed thanks to District personnel, saying the award is thanks to the committed work by staff to operate in an open, transparent manner.

In other matters, the Board recognized the work of Scherzinger, who tendered his resignation in late May. He will become the general manager of Truckee Donner Public Utilities District.

“It is with great pleasure to present Rem Scherzinger with this resolution of appreciation,” said Interim General Manager Greg Jones. “Good colleagues are the kind of people you can rely on, generally to get along with, share a joke with or ask for help. Rem, you are definitely all of these things. As our boss you’ve always been there to educate us, to encourage professionalism in our actions and to make sure our pencils are always sharpened.”

“The District has been extremely lucky to have you as its General Manager during the last seven years. We plan to honor your time here, your friendship and all that you have contributed to the district and to the community by continuing to do our best in all that we do,” Jones said.

The next regular meeting of the NID Board of Directors will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8. NID Board meetings are open to the public.
