Board Meeting Wrap: NID approves Table Meadow Road waterline extension; new Cost of Service study presented

February 27, 2020

Nevada Irrigation District (NID) Directors agreed to ensure District action items developed to support strategic goals will be measurable and include deliverables, during their Feb. 26 meeting. Present were President Ricki Heck, Vice President Chris Bierwagen, Scott Miller, Laura Peters and Nick Wilcox.

The Board unanimously approved funding agreements with 22 property owners within the Table Meadow Road Phase 2 District Financed Waterline Extension project. This project is part of the District’s effort to support the extension of waterlines into established areas with water quality and/or supply issues. NID provides support to these neighborhoods by fronting the costs of the pipeline design and installation while allowing the participating property owners to finance their portion and pay it back over 30 years at a low-interest rate.

Directors also heard a presentation about NID’s new Cost of Service Study, which estimates the cost of service for NID’s treated and raw water systems and also to the separate zones served by each system. The study is based on a comprehensive effort by District staff to identify expenses incurred by each of the District’s divisions and zones over past three fiscal years 2017 through 2019. The General Manager reported District water storage is 200,038 acre-feet, which is 76 percent of maximum capacity or 98 percent of a seven-year average for the water year. Precipitation (as measured at Bowman Lake) is 65 percent of average at 28.98 inches.

The next regular meeting of the NID Board of Directors will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the NID Business Center located at 1036 West Main Street, Grass Valley. NID Board meetings are open to the public.
