Board Meeting wrap: Urban Water Management Plan and the Agricultural Water Management Plan move ahead – extra public workshops planned
October 28, 2020
The Nevada Irrigation District (NID) is moving ahead with its work on its Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP) and the Agricultural Water Management Plan (AWMP) to ensure future water deliveries to raw and treated water.
The plans are prepared by California water suppliers to support long-term resource planning, and ensure adequate water supplies are available to meet existing and future water demands. These plans are prepared every five years and submitted to the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) as required in California Water Code and the Water Conservation Act of 2009.
The Board of Directors approved Consultant Zanjero of Folsom to complete the UWMP and AWMP in accordance with legislative requirements and the DWR guidebooks.
An important part of the development of the UWMP and AWMP involves public input. Currently only a public hearing is required as part of the process, but public outreach and involvement in this process is vital. As such, NID will hold two public workshops for the UWMP and two public workshops for the AWMP in addition to the required public hearings.

The interim General Manager reported there has been no precipitation at Bowman Lake. In addition, an estimated 50 raw water customers have requested fall water flows totaling about 106 miner’s inches of water.
Water conservation fell during September with treated water customers conserving about 6 percent compared to water use during the same time in 2013, which started the most recent severe drought in modern times. Customers have been averaging about an 11 percent reduction each month.
The Board of Directors will meet in special session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2020. The NID Boardroom is currently closed to the public. This meeting is open to the public via video-teleconference. View the agenda here.
Note on videoconferencing: The video conference format allows the Board to meet, respect social distancing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, while also allowing the public to participate and provide public comment. Today’s meeting will also be posted on YouTube.
Full details and instructions for how to access each meeting will be provided on the front page of agendas, located on NID’s website. Click on an agenda for specific details about that meeting.
