Due to dangerous fire conditions, all developed campgrounds and day-use sites in the Tahoe National Forest have been temporarily closed.

These closures also include Nevada Irrigation District (NID) recreation facilities in the Jackson Meadows – Bowman Lake areas.

The USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region announced the temporary closures and additional fire restrictions across most National Forests within California to provide for public safety and reduce the potential for human caused fire starts.

The following closures and prohibitions apply within the Tahoe National Forest:

• A closure of all developed campgrounds and day-use sites. Trails and trailheads remain open.
• No fires. This includes campfires and all gas stoves, propane barbeques, etc.
• A closure of “dispersed camping” sites outside designated, developed campgrounds.

The TNF closures and prohibitions went into effect on Sept. 7, and will be re-evaluated daily by federal agents as conditions change.

In the TNF, NID maintains and operates campgrounds and recreational facilities in the Jackson Meadows – Bowman Lake areas. Jackson Meadows features several campgrounds, picnic day use sites and boat ramps. Other campgrounds are located at Bowman, Canyon Creek, Jackson Creek, Sawmill and Faucherie Lakes in the Bowman corridor.

In NID’s foothill division, campgrounds around Scotts Flat Reservoir and Rollins Reservoir remain open, although campfires and open fires fueled by wood or charcoal are prohibited.

“The wildfire danger in our forested recreational areas is heightened with the hot, dry conditions,” said NID Recreation Manager Monica Reyes. “Our focus is on public safety. Thank you for understanding this extreme fire threat, and respecting the temporary restrictions being placed on our recreation facilities.”
