Regional Groundwater Sustainability Plan is available for public comment
You’re invited to review and provide comment on the draft Groundwater Sustainability Plan that will help regional agencies maintain sustainable groundwater supplies for our communities, agriculture, and the environment.
The draft Plan can be viewed at https://nasbgroundwater.org/. Click here. Comments will be accepted through October 29.
Background: with the passage of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) in 2014, local agencies in California’s groundwater basins became required to develop and implement a Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) to protect groundwater. One such basin is the North American Subbasin (NASb), located in parts of Sutter, Placer and Sacramento counties.
The NASb is comprised of five Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) that are coordinating to prepare a draft Groundwater Sustainability Plan. These GSAs have formed to ensure that the entire basin is covered by GSAs that will work directly with their local constituents.
One of these GSAs is the West Placer Groundwater Sustainability Agency (WPGSA), of which the Nevada Irrigation District is a member. Other members are the County of Placer, the City of Roseville, the City of Lincoln, and the Placer County Water Agency.
The WPGSA implements activities that preserve and enhance the current state of groundwater for our cities, communities, agriculture and the environment. More specifically, this locally-controlled effort will protect the basin from overdraft, create sustainable water supplies for agriculture and current and future development, support a stable and growing local economy, and contribute to land and habitat conservation.
